El Cid Guide Costa del Sol

Language

Should you wish to live in Spain, you will find that learning Spanish will be a real benefit to your life. Knowing this, the town halls especially along the Costa del Sol and also in some inland towns in Andalucia, have created Spanish classes for foreigners. This is usually run by the department called the 'Casa de Cultura' and the prices are usually very low, as they are subsidised by the Town Hall.
There are also many privately run language schools that run many different types of courses, such as evening classes, weekend and summer courses. There are also special courses for foreigners learning Spanish run by the Spanish Universities in Málaga, Granada and Sevilla.
If your life is a bit to hectic to be able to get a few hours free for Spanish classes, there are some excellent books, videos, CD's and tapes which can give you a good grounding in the language. Even watching Spanish television will slowly improve your understanding.
Generally though, as long as you try to speak Spanish, you will find the locals very friendly and helpful, especially if they hear trying to speak to them in Spanish.
